Services for Current International Students

Appointments and Walk-In Advising Hours

Walk-in advising hours for current international students are available on:

• Wednesdays from 10:00 to 12:30
• Thursdays from 1:30 to 4:00
• Fridays from 2:00 to 4:00

Walk-in appointments will be limited to 10 minutes each on a “first come, first served” basis.

Scheduled appointments can be obtained by calling the OIA Front Desk at 317-274-7000 or by emailing oia@iupui.edu

The OIA Student Advising Staff is available to answer your questions via email at iadvisor@iupui.edu iAdvisor is monitored Monday through Friday, 9 a.m to 4:30 p.m. Your inquiry should receive a response within one business day.

Using the iStart Self-Service System

International Students can access the iStart self-service system at http://istart.iu.edu. Through iStart, current students may request:

• I-20 Extension of Stay
• Travel Signatures
• Letters of Good Standing
• Insurance Waivers
• Replacement of Lost I-20/DS-2019

Services for international scholars:

• Visa advice for employment, travel, dependents, permanent residence
• Weekly orientation for new scholars
• Tax advising and workshops for scholars
• Assistance with scholars’ cultural adjustment and needs related to daily life
• International scholar health insurance

Services for departments:

• Employment-based visa application processing for international scholars and their dependents
• Advice on choosing the right visa to accommodate the department and scholar’s objectives
• Advice on sponsoring a scholar for permanent residence
• Help with organizing and completing tax forms to compensate a short-term scholar
• Advice in completing the I-9
• Workshop “How to Hire a Foreign National” for university administrators each Fall
